All around the world eyes are set on the United States and the run-up to their presidential elections. During these elections, The Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven (The Netherlands) is setting its sights on the cultural heartland of the US - the area on the banks of the Mississippi. In association withe the Smart Museum of Art Chicago and the Muziekcentrum Frits Philips, the Van Abbemuseum will present Heartland - a large-scale, multi-disciplinary international project. Right after the snowfall in St. Louis and the blizzard in Chicago co-curator, Stephanie Smith from the Smart Museum at the University in Chicago, and I met up in St. Louis to take a car to Chicago, but no complains the weather was extremely charming with constant sun and the beautiful winter landscapes.

boots was introduced to us on our first research trip in the Heartland. Their program is aiming to work with us and international artists. Among others they publish twice a year “bootprint” a publication dedicated to contemporary art.
